The School of Health Policy and Management, Faculty of Health invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in Critical Disability Studies at the Assistant Professor level, effective January 1, 2011. All positions at York University are subject to final budgetary approval.

The graduate program in Critical Disability Studies offers an MA and PhD degree. The program is unique in that it engages in the critical examination of societal participation of persons with disabilities and the social determinants of disability. The program focuses on issues of disability based on critical theory, inclusion, citizenship, social justice and international standards for human rights. Applicants should specialize in one or more of the following areas: public policy, labour market issues, social and economic marginalization, adaptive technology or cultural representation of difference and have a broad understanding of human rights and social justice. This position involves graduate and undergraduate teaching and supervision. The successful candidate must be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The program is particularly interested in recruiting candidates who are eligible for the CIHR/SSHRC and external research funding.

Requirements: Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in a related area with a focus on disability; candidates must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and in scholarly research and publication in the areas of social determinants of disability. Preference will be given to candidates who have international experience. It is also expected that candidates will have demonstrated experience of working with people with disabilities in their scholarly/community activities.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
