Tenure-Stream Appointments

Applications are invited from highly qualified individuals for two (2) full-time tenure-stream positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor commencing July 1, 2015, subject to budgetary approval. Responsibilities will include: teaching and supervision in the undergraduate and/or graduate programs, conducting a program of research, and academic service. The successful candidates should have scholarly and teaching background in one of the following two areas:

Positive Aging with Prevention and Management of Chronic Disease

The successful candidate will bring expertise and scholarship of the aging process in the context of living with chronic disease, determinants of health and management of chronic conditions in later life, health promotion and primary health care as well as knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system and the politics of aging and globalization. Through examining existing chronic disease management models, critical and social theories of aging and primary health care, her/his own research programs and collaboration with partners at York and the community, it is anticipated that new transdisciplinary service delivery models with better utilization of resources will be developed and tested.

Health Policy and System Innovation

The successful candidate will bring expertise and scholarship from a critical theories perspective in health policy analysis and/or implementation of new models of healthcare delivery. Experience may range from engaging communities in a context of primary health care to promote health locally and internationally, or coordinating care with acute, specialty and community services across the lifespan, to embracing transdisciplinary knowledge and expertise across the continuum of care.

We are interested in individuals who meet the following requirements for the position:

- Baccalaureate in Nursing
- Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Nursing or a related degree (preference given to a PhD in Nursing), completed by the commencement of appointment;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the diverse discourses that inform nursing knowledge development and the growth of nursing as a discipline;
- Demonstrated alignment with the School of Nursing human science philosophy and commitment to social justice and health promotion; and
- A scholar at the level of Associate Professor must have an established program of research in one of the required areas, graduate supervisory experience, substantive research funding, and a strong publication record. A scholar at the level of Assistant Professor must demonstrate evidence of a beginning program of scholarship in one of the two areas, including research and publications, and be eligible for external research funding and grants.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

- Teaching in university undergraduate and graduate nursing programs;
- Experience in technology-enhanced, experiential learning;
- Participating in academic governance at the unit, faculty, and/or university level;
- Graduate student supervision
