The Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Science at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada invites applications for a tenure-track, alternate-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Lecturer to commence July 1, 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter with responsibility for developing, teaching, and assessing the effectiveness of innovative courses and laboratory experiments in introductory and advanced physics.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Physics and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate physics education. The successful candidate will exhibit an effective teaching style, will demonstrate outstanding physics instrumentation skills and will have experience in curriculum development of undergraduate physics laboratories.
The candidate will be expected to take a leadership role to innovate teaching methodology in introductory physics for an interdisciplinary audience, including active learning, experiential education, and inquiry-driven laboratory activities. The successful candidate will build upon the strong foundation of the Department's "learning through practice" mission and help the Department to be a leading innovator in the field of in-laboratory physics pedagogy. As such, the position will involve the development, implementation and assessment of new, innovative undergraduate physics laboratory experiments, both hands-on and virtual.
