Lassonde School of Engineering
Earth and Space Science and Engineering

The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering (ESSE) is seeking an outstanding candidate for an alternate-stream tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Lecturer level to teach relevant core areas of engineering and to serve as Graduate Attributes Coordinators.

The Lassonde School of Engineering at York University has embraced the assessment of Graduate Attributes as one means of continuous improvement of its undergraduate engineering programs. Duties of this new position is expected to evolve over time, but in addition to teaching relevant engineering courses, responsibilities will include mapping of graduate attributes across the curricula, identification of assessment opportunities, development of assessment tools, collection and analysis of student performance data and recommendations for program improvement, in partnership with the Departmental Curriculum Committees. The successful candidate will therefore work collaboratively in a School-wide implementation of Graduate Attributes, linking our vision of continuous program improvement with the student experience.

While outstanding candidates in all areas of ESSE will be considered, we are especially interested in those with strong abilities to develop and teach courses in space and geomatics engineering to complement the Department's existing strengths. These areas include, but are not limited to: space systems engineering, space hardware development, earth observations remote sensing, geographic information systems, and global navigation satellite positioning.

The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering is home to nearly 30 faculty members, 300 undergraduate and over 100 graduate students. We offer undergraduate programs in Space Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, and Atmospheric Science. Our graduate program is based on our research in the areas of planetary science, climate and atmosphere, space technology, and geomatics.

The successful candidate will have a first degree in a field related to the position, a PhD in a closely related engineering discipline, a track record of excellence in teaching, and a demonstrated interest in engineering education. Priority will be given to candidates who are licensed as a professional engineer in Canada.
