Department of Social Science

The Department of Social Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, York University, invites applications from qualified candidates for a one-year Sessional Assistant Professor position in its International Development Studies (IDS) program. The position is to commence September 1, 2015. Applicants must have a PhD with an interdisciplinary background in the social sciences or a related area with demonstrable excellence, or the promise of excellence, in teaching and scholarly research. The successful applicant will have comprehensive expertise in the competing theoretical and methodological frameworks that inform research in IDS; recent field research, work experience and a strong publication record focused on a region of the global south; undergraduate and graduate teaching experience in an interdisciplinary programme; and shall be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Applicants should also have demonstrated versatility in teaching and be prepared to teach a range of courses in the program, including the first year introduction to IDS, some upper level core and elective courses, and a graduate course in the MA program in Development Studies (DVST). The appointment carries a teaching load of three full courses or the equivalent to be taught during the Fall/Winter 2015-16 and Summer 2016 semesters.
