Composition and Sound Design for Cinema, Games, and Motion Media
The School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) at York University, Toronto, invite applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Composition and Sound Design for Cinema, Games, and Motion Media in the collaborating departments of Music, Digital Media and Cinema and Media Arts.
One of North America's leading schools for the arts, AMPD offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Dance, Design, Digital Media, Cinema and Media Arts, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Art History, Media Studies, Theatre and Performance Studies.
This position requires a dynamic and innovative composer/researcher with extensive industry experience who can galvanize the Department of Music in current and forward-looking compositional practices in the area of media scoring/sound design (e.g. scoring/sound for film, games, episodic television, transmedia; MIDI composition, orchestration, recording) with a critical understanding of modern scoring processes, both aesthetic and technological, as a component of an interactive, transdisciplinary arts practice.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Master's degree or equivalent in the areas of music composition, sound design or a closely related field. The successful candidate must also demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly research. An outstanding research record, experience working with undergraduate and graduate students and eligibility for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, are highly desired. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly research. The candidate is expected to provide leadership by fostering collaborative research, securing external funding, making links across art, design, and digital media, supervising graduate students, and generating national and international academic, community and industry partnerships.
