Contractually Limited Appointment
The Department of Earth & Space Science and Engineering (ESSE) is seeking an excellent candidate for a three-year alternate-stream contractually limited appointment in Geomatics Engineering at the Sessional Assistant Lecturer level. The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be teaching undergraduate courses, undergraduate program enhancement and recruitment initiatives in Geomatics Engineering. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in various additional activities related to undergraduate programs, such as engineering accreditation, serving on academic committees, providing leadership in curriculum development, interacting with students and industry to enhance student experiential learning activities, devising and implementing technology-enhanced learning techniques, supervising other persons engaged in teaching, and undergraduate program administration.
The successful candidate will have a first degree (BASc, BEng or equivalent) in Geomatics Engineering or a related field and a PhD in the same or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate must be able to provide documented evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and demonstrate a commitment to pedagogy with the potential for programmatic leadership. Preference will be given to candidates who are, or are eligible to be, licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. The candidate will be expected to work independently, as well as with ESSE and Lassonde colleagues on learning, academic policy and recruitment initiatives.
The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University is home to nearly 30 faculty members, 300 undergraduate students and almost 100 graduate students. We are one of the founding members of the Lassonde School of Engineering, offering unique and world-class undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering and applied science, including Ontario's only Geomatics Engineering program, Canada's only Space Engineering program, as well as a renowned Atmospheric Science program. Our engineering programs are fully accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) and the Geomatics Engineering program also prepares graduates for Ontario Land Surveyor (OLS) designation upon graduation. Our research strengths have a long history and are spread across multidisciplinary, innovative, world-class research activities spanning from remote sensing and satellite-based navigation to planetary science to satellite technologies to atmospheric studies.
