Digital Cinema Post Production, Cinema and Media Arts
The School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) at York University, Toronto, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Digital Post Production in the department of Cinema and Media Arts. This position, subject to budgetary approval, will commence July 1, 2017.
One of North America's leading schools for the arts, AMPD offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Dance, Design, Computational Arts, Cinema and Media Arts, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Art History, Media Studies, and Theatre and Performance Studies. York's Department of Cinema and Media Arts is recognized as one of the premier centres for education in film production, screenwriting and cinema and media studies in Canada. Faculty members include award-winning filmmakers, screenwriters and internationally acclaimed film theorists, historians and critics. Our students continually excel in the competitive international arena of film festivals and many of our graduates go on to join the thriving media industries in Canada, developing careers as film directors, editors, sound recordists, production managers and cinematographers.
The successful candidate will be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in all aspects of Digital Cinema with a particular focus on picture editing and sound editing, coordinating student on-line/colour grading sessions and sound mixes, supervising graduate production theses, advising students, serving on department, faculty and university committees and developing curriculum. A key element of this position will be a commitment to the expansion of pedagogy through the development of blended and technology-enhanced courses.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or PhD equivalent (typically an MFA and a substantial professional record of creative activity). Evidence of excellence in teaching, or the potential for excellence in teaching, at a post-secondary institution is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate outstanding scholarly research and have an overall knowledge of filmmaking with a specialization in digital post production and extensive knowledge of workflow from logging to master. Technical expertise is required in post-production software, as well as experience in the fundamentals of digital effects. Knowledge of editorial pre-visualization, basic visual effects, Virtual Reality and stereoscopic 3D editing will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective use of digital editing techniques for artistic, dramatic and experimental objectives.
