Established in 2012, the Lassonde School of Engineering, York University offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering, computer science and earth and atmospheric science. The Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for three (3) tenure-track appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor and/or Associate Professor, to commence July 1, 2017, subject to budgetary approval. We are seeking candidates with particular research focus and ability to teach in the areas of Aerospace, Smart Transportation and Biosystems. Applications are welcome from individuals with research experience in the traditional areas of mechanical engineering such as thermofluids and solid mechanics, but preference will be given to the area of aerospace, smart and sustainable transportation systems, and bio-systems (e.g. mechanics of bio-systems, biomechanics, and medical devices).
Successful candidates must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely-related field, and be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. Candidates must demonstrate excellence, or promise of excellence, in teaching and scholarly research and be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Ideas and experience in innovative teaching will be an asset, while a strong research track record commensurate with the rank of appointment is essential. The successful candidates will be required to teach and supervise students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, establish a strong, externally-funded research program, assist in the administrative tasks of the department and the university.

Complete applications must include: (1) a cover letter clearly indicating the rank for which the candidate wishes to be considered; (2) a detailed curriculum vitae highlighting career achievements, areas of research, teaching experience, list of publications and awards/honours, as well as research grants and students supervised (the last two items are especially important for the Associate Professor position); (3) the names and contact information of three people who have agreed to provide reference letters; (4) a statement of research plans detailing the intended projects to be pursued, envisioned resources, and external funding ideas to allow executing the research plans (maximum 3 pages); (5) a statement of teaching plan especially concerning the "Renaissance Engineer" vision for the department at the Lassonde School of Engineering (maximum 2 pages); three samples of the candidate's most significant scholarly work.
