Professor of Practice - Legal Education

This contractually limited term appointment with Osgoode Professional Development provides the opportunity to conduct research on, and provide leadership on legal education, professional regulation and legal practice; and to advise on, and perform project work in curriculum design using digital technology, PBL, simulation and other innovative techniques.

This appointment is intended for leaders with unique expertise and experience in legal education, including legal doctrine and practice skills curriculum design and pedagogy. It will be of particular interest to educationalists with knowledge and experience in legal education, including common law legal education and practice skills training.

The Professor of Practice will establish a national/global forum for critical and innovative thinking on legal education, professional regulation and legal practice; publish interdisciplinary research valuable to legal educators and professional regulators; provide consulting and advice to academics, regulators and others on teaching and learning of professional skills and practice competencies; and lead projects to implement PBL, legal practice simulations and other innovative learning techniques into non-degree programs, as well as degree programs such as the Professional Master of Laws in Canadian Common Law.

The position will also stand as a platform for the Professor of Practice to make an innovative research contribution in areas such as use of digital technology, PBL and simulations in legal education and practice competencies training.

Terms of Appointment

The successful candidate will be appointed for a three-year term commencing March 1, 2017, with a possibility of further renewal. Compensation will include salary and benefits, as well as stipend for conferences and travel. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience. This is not a tenure-stream appointment.

Application

The successful candidate will possess an LL.B., as well as a degree or other certification in Education. An advanced graduate degree is strongly preferred. Extensive and comprehensive knowledge of common law legal education pedagogy, curriculum design and legal profession regulatory and licensing regimes is required; as well as a track record of research, publication and thought leadership in those fields. A track record of success with collaborative curriculum design and implementation is a must.
