Tenure-Track Appointment
We are seeking an innovative and inspiring engineering educator for an alternate-stream (teaching-focused) tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Lecturer, effective July 1, 2017, to serve as course director and laboratory coordinator in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Lassonde School of Engineering, York University.
The successful candidate's primary responsibility will be in teaching and pedagogy, particularly with regard to undergraduate courses, laboratory instruction and student projects. S/he will also contribute to supporting students' learning through pedagogical innovation, outcomes-based student assessment, interactions with industry, learning technologies, and collegial governance of the program.
The successful candidate must provide documented evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and a commitment to innovative pedagogy, with the potential for programmatic leadership appropriate to the level of their appointment. S/he must have a first degree (BASc, BEng or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. The candidate must demonstrate excellence of knowledge in core areas of Mechanical Engineering, including solid mechanics and thermofluids. Experiences in teaching other related subject areas such as life cycle analysis, system level engineering, and/or advanced and unusual mechanical technology will be an asset. In addition, candidates should possess excellent communications skills and be committed to working collegially. They should possess vision and commitment to inspire continued advancement of the Department's educational programs. The candidate must be eligible for licensure as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. Evidence of achievement in accreditation and curriculum quality assurance processes will be also an asset.
The newly-established Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate programs that cultivate the learning, thinking and problem-solving abilities needed to adapt, to develop and to exercise responsible leadership through times of rapid change.
