The Department of Social Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University, invites applications for a one-year Sessional Assistant Professor position in Health & Society (HESO) to commence July 1, 2017. Qualified applicants will have a specialization in one or more of the following fields: environmental health, addiction, Indigenous health, or race and health. Applicants must hold a PhD in one of the social sciences, humanities, or an interdisciplinary program with a research focus on health or medicine. Applicants must demonstrate excellence or the promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly research. Versatility in teaching (e.g., at different levels of the curriculum and in varying pedagogical formats) and experience teaching in larger first or second year courses are assets. The HESO program is an interdisciplinary liberal arts program, which uses different critical theoretical approaches from the social sciences and humanities to understand health and health care within their social, historical, political, economic and cultural contexts. Pedagogical innovation in priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is an asset. The appointment carries a teaching load of three full courses or the equivalent.
