Established in 2012, the Lassonde School of Engineering, York University offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering, computer science and Earth and atmospheric science. The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering (ESSE), Lassonde School of Engineering, York University, is seeking an Alternate Stream, (teaching focused) tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Lecturer to serve as course director and laboratory instructor for core Geomatics Engineering, Space Engineering and Earth and Atmospheric science program courses. This appointment is to commence July 1, 2017.
The successful candidate's primary responsibility will be in teaching and program development, particularly with regard to undergraduate courses, laboratory instruction and student projects. S/he will also contribute to supporting students' learning through pedagogical innovation (e.g., flipped classroom), outcomes-based student assessment, interactions with industry, learning technologies, and collegial governance of the program.
The successful candidate must provide documented evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and a commitment to innovative pedagogy, with the potential for programmatic leadership. S/he must have a first degree (BASc, BEng or equivalent) in Geomatics Engineering, Space Engineering or a related field, and a PhD in Geomatics Engineering or Space Engineering or a related field. The candidate must demonstrate excellence of knowledge in core areas of Geomatics Engineering or Space Engineering. Experience in the teaching of subject areas such as Earth science related topics (e.g., Earth's origin and composition, environment, atmosphere), modern space geodetic techniques and field surveys will be an asset. In addition, candidates should possess excellent communications skills and be committed to working collegially. They should possess vision and commitment to inspire continued advancement of the Department's educational programs. The candidate must be eligible for licensure as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. Evidence of achievement in accreditation and curriculum quality assurance processes will be also an asset.
The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering offers undergraduate (BEng and BSc) and graduate (MSc and PhD) programs in Geomatics Engineering, Space Engineering, Geomatics Science, Space Science, and Atmospheric Science that develop students' critical thinking and problem-solving abilities needed for current and future technical leadership roles in industry, government and academia.
