Two Faculty Positions in Neuroscience – York University

As a key part of a major University-wide initiative in neuroscience, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Health at York University plan to make two tenure-stream faculty hires. The incumbents will establish technology-intensive, state-of-the art research programs and engage in collaborative projects that require teams of researchers with advanced skill sets and specialized equipment. These are Research Enhanced Faculty positions partially funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) Vision: Science to Application (VISTA) program http://vista.info.yorku.ca/. The applicants will receive enhanced start-up funding, additional annual research funds, a reduced undergraduate teaching load, and competitive access to general VISTA research and training funds. They will also contribute to York's teaching and research priorities in the life sciences, and participate in developing an inter-Faculty Neuroscience Program at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Department of Psychology, Faculty of Health

The Department of Psychology at York University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level in Visual Neuroscience: Primate Neurophysiology, to commence as early as January 1, 2018.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in psychology or related discipline. The applicant will combine leading-edge neurophysiological techniques (such as single/multi-neuron recording) and behavioral recordings to study the neural basis of visual functions in primates such as perception, cognition, sensorimotor integration, and/or multisensory integration. We particularly encourage candidates who use and/or develop innovative technologies. The faculty member who fills this position is expected to play a key leadership role in the design, development, and operation of a new world-class primate research facility and to collaborate and interact with other VISTA investigators and partners. The successful applicant should have an outstanding research record demonstrating scholarly eminence, a proven ability to attract substantial peer-reviewed external research funding, and train successful graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The position requires an individual with a demonstrated record of teaching and supervision excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates must be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively and will be expected to contribute through service to the department, faculty and university.

York is Canada's third largest university, located in Toronto Ontario, with a rich diversity of perspectives and a strong sense of social responsibility that sets it apart. Our Psychology Department is ranked among the top 100 in the world according to 2017 QS World Rankings. York has a research-dedicated MRI suite and substantial facilities for visual psychophysics, visual neuroscience, and virtual reality. The successful candidate will have opportunity to apply for membership in York's Neuroscience Graduate Diploma Program as well as York’s Centre for Vision Research and other organized research units contributing to the VISTA program.

A cover letter, an up-to-date curriculum vitae, a statement of research and teaching interests, three reprints or preprints, and teaching evaluations (if available) should be uploaded into a single pdf file and sent by July 1, 2017 to psycjobs@yorku.ca. Arrangements should be made for three confidential letters of reference to be submitted to the same email and addressed to Chair, Psychology Search Committee, 296 Behavioural Science Building, Department of Psychology, York University, 4700 Keele Street, Toronto, ON, Canada M3J 1P3.
