The Department of Cinema and Media Arts, The School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD), York University invites applications for a three-year Contractually Limited Appointment at the Sessional Assistant Professor level in Media Arts to commence August 15, 2017. All positions at York University are subject to budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The position is intended to support the new Media Arts BFA in the Department of Cinema and Media Arts. The Media Arts BFA combines critical thinking with hands on experience in innovative studio courses that focus on digital technologies (from social media to diverse screen technologies). The over-riding philosophy of the degree emphasizes collaboration, flexibility, resourcefulness and problem solving across various media platforms. The ideal candidate will have an established artistic and critical practice along with relevant professional and academic experience.

The successful applicant will be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and will teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in all aspects of Media Arts with a particular focus on hybrid theory/practice courses that incorporate an array of authoring and computing tools. These courses might include: Immersive Media Practice (Future Cinema), Activist Media, Animation and Digital Media, Studies in Expanded Cinema, Curating Media, Gaming, Interactive Documentary, Transmedia Storytelling. Candidates should have expertise in at least two of these areas.

Requirements: The successful candidate will have a PhD or PhD equivalent (typically an MFA and a substantial professional record of creative activity) in the areas of Media Arts, Film or Digital Culture. Evidence of excellence or the potential for excellence in research/creation, scholarship and teaching at a post-secondary institution is required.
