Numerous opportunities exist for close collaboration with the Departments of Biology and Chemistry, Centre for Biomolecular Interactions, Centre for Mass Spectrometry, fMRI Facility, Centre for Vision Research, VISTA (Vision: Science to Application, a Canada First Research Excellence Fund), and/or Faculties of Engineering and Health.

York University (Canada's 3rd largest university) values interdisciplinarity and places strong emphasis on both research and teaching. York's location in the greater Toronto area facilitates opportunities for interaction with many nearby universities, research institutes, and hospitals. Furthermore, the Canadian federal funding landscape offers support for basic and applied research.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy has strong research groups in Astronomy/Astrophysics, Atomic/Molecular/Optical Physics (including laser physics), High Energy Physics, and is growing a contingent in Biophysics. Faculty regularly engage and collaborate with researchers at CERN, the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, the Fields Institute, the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, TRIUMF and Fermilab. Further information about the Department and the University can be found at http://www.physics.yorku.ca/.

Applicants must have a PhD in Physics or a related discipline along with relevant postdoctoral experience and be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, foster research linkages within and beyond York, show excellence or promise of excellence in the teaching of physics and biophysics at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and play an active role in widely promoting York's endeavours in biophysical research and education. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is an asset.
