Joint Faculty Position in Experimental Neutrino Physics
at York University and Fermilab

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at York University in Toronto, Canada and the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) in Chicago, USA, invite applications for a joint position in the field of experimental neutrino physics to commence July 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. During the period of the joint appointment, the Joint Appointee will be expected to devote at least 50% of their research time to research activities related to the development of the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE).

At York University, this would be a tenure-stream position at the level of Assistant Professor or a tenured position at the level of Associate or Full Professor. At Fermilab, the position would be that of Associate Scientist or Scientist or Senior Scientist. York University shall serve as the home institution. The joint appointment will have a duration of five years, with the possibility of extending the joint status by mutual agreement between the two institutions. In the event that the joint appointment status is not extended, the Joint Appointee will revert to a regular academic appointment at York University. The Joint Appointee will be provided with office space, research space, and associated resources both at York University and Fermilab.

York University is Canada's third largest university. Its location in the greater Toronto area facilitates opportunities for interaction with many nearby universities and research institutes. Fermilab is the premier particle physics and accelerator laboratory in the United States.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at York has strong research groups in High Energy Physics, Astronomy/Astrophysics, and Atomic/Molecular/Optical Physics (including laser physics), and is growing a contingent in Biophysics. Faculty regularly engage and collaborate with researchers at CERN, the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, the Fields Institute, the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, T2K, and TRIUMF. Further information about the Department and the University can be found at http://www.physics.yorku.ca .

Applicants must have a PhD in Physics or a related discipline along with relevant postdoctoral experience and be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, foster research linkages within and beyond York, show excellence or promise of excellence in the teaching of physics at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and play an active role in widely promoting York's endeavours in research and education. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is an asset.

York University is an Affirmative Action (AA) employer and strongly values diversity, including gender and sexual diversity, within its community.
