Second Language Acquisition and Learning

The Faculty of Education is one of the leading faculties of education in Canada. Through our research, scholarship and innovative programs we enact our mission of reinventing education for a diverse, complex world.

The Faculty of Education invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Second Language Acquisition and Learning at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will contribute to our Bachelor of Education, and Graduate Diploma in Language and Literacy Education, teach courses within other programs in the Faculty, and supervise graduate students. Within the broad area of Language and Literacy Education and aligned with the priorities of the Faculty of Education's Strategic Plan ( http://edu.yorku.ca/files/2017/08/EDU-StrategicPlan2017.pdf ), the successful candidate will offer expertise in areas such as: the school engagement and achievement of linguistic minority students, including those representing immigrant, refugee, study abroad, and Canadian-born ELL demographics; the acquisition, learning and maintenance of minority, 'heritage' languages; teaching ESL in the content areas; academic accommodation of non-native speaking students (policy and planning); multilingual pedagogy; and semiotics of bilingual/multilingual language acquisition and usage. The projected start date for this position is July 1, 2019. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

A doctorate in Education or a related field is required. Candidates must present evidence of their abilities to: establish a strong program of scholarly research; demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence and leadership in undergraduate and graduate teaching. They will also have publications appropriate to their stage of career and must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
