The School of Kinesiology and Health Science invites applications for a tenure-track professorial position in Sport, Physical Activity/Culture and Indigenous Health at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to commence July 1, 2019. We seek an outstanding scholar to join a growing and dynamic School that is ranked as the top Kinesiology program in Canada and 18th in the world.
Candidates should show excellence or promise of excellence in scholarly research and in teaching and be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. We seek a candidate with expertise and experience in the critical socio-cultural study of sport, physical activity/culture and health focused on Indigenous (aboriginal) populations. Research and teaching experience on policy analysis, development and implementation will be considered an asset. Applicants must demonstrate critical research and teaching capacity in sport and/or physical activity/culture as means of improving health outcomes for Indigenous peoples and communities. Applicants must also demonstrate or show promise of ability to build strong connections with local Indigenous nations and Indigenous students.
Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., Kinesiology, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Sociology, Political Science, Public Health, etc.) so long as their research and teaching expertise is focused on sport, physical activity/culture and health as related to Indigenous peoples. PhD candidates are welcome to apply with evidence of completion by July 1, 2019. Post-doctoral experience will be considered an asset.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
