Joint Faculty Position in Experimental Neutrino Physics at
York University and Fermilab

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at York University in Toronto, Canada and the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) near Chicago, USA, invite applications for a joint position in the field of experimental neutrino physics to commence July 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. During the period of the joint appointment, the Joint Appointee will be expected to devote at least 50% of their research time to research activities related to the development of the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and/or the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). In 2018, the first such joint appointment was made; this second position will strengthen the existing York effort in LBNF and DUNE.

At York University, this would be a tenure-track professorial-stream position at the Assistant Professor level. At Fermilab, the position would be that of Associate Scientist. York University shall serve as the home institution. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval. The joint appointment will have a duration of five years, with the possibility of extending the joint status by mutual agreement between the two institutions. In the event that the joint appointment status is not extended, the Joint Appointee will revert to a regular academic appointment at York University. The Joint Appointee will be provided with office space, research space, and associated resources both at York University and Fermilab.

Fermilab is located on a 6,800-acre prairie 35 miles outside Chicago, a treasure that has been designated a National Environmental Research Park.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at York has strong research groups in High Energy Physics, Astronomy/Astrophysics, Atomic/Molecular/Optical Physics (including laser physics), and Biophysics. Faculty regularly engage and collaborate with researchers at CERN, the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, Fermilab, the Fields Institute, the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, J-PARC, and TRIUMF. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics along with relevant postdoctoral experience and be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, foster research linkages within and beyond York, and play an active role in widely promoting York's endeavours in research and education. Candidates must show excellence or promise of excellence in the teaching of physics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is desirable.
