The Department of Social Science invites applications for a teaching stream appointment in Criminology at the Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream level, to commence July 1, 2019. All positions at York University are subject to budgetary approval. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A PhD in Criminology or a related field is required. Candidates must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in interdisciplinary teaching and a commitment to interdisciplinary pedagogy with recent course directorship experience. Applicants must demonstrate an appreciation and knowledge of a broad range of theories and topics in criminology and the ability to teach across the undergraduate criminology curriculum at all levels. In particular, Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach core courses in the Criminology Program with expertise in one or more of the following areas: youth crime, environmental (“green”) criminology, the criminalization of sexuality and gendered identities, Indigenous Peoples and criminal justice, drugs, public health and criminology. The Department is keen to attract a scholar who has a particular interest in teaching, prior experience in student-focused administrative service and a willingness to take a leadership role in the coordination of the program. Published work in the area of Criminology would be an asset. The primary responsibilities of the position will be the teaching of undergraduate courses. A record of pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning is preferred as is experience with curriculum development. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.
