The Department of Social Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University, invites applications for a tenure-track professorial stream position in International Development Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant social science discipline or interdisciplinary degree program related to the social sciences and must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in scholarly research, teaching, and service, and have publications appropriate to their stage of career. In addition, the candidate will demonstrate both a systematic yet critical understanding of the changing narratives of development and the ability to teach our core courses at the undergraduate level. We are looking for a critical development studies scholar with expertise in one or more of the following areas: culture and development, new actors in development, rural/grassroots development, conflict and development. Preference will also be given to candidates focusing on one or more of the following regions: Africa, Latin America and Caribbean, South Asia, and the Middle East.
Candidates will demonstrate an ongoing program of interdisciplinary research in development in the Global South and must also have first-hand experience conducting fieldwork there. The successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is preferred.
