Health Policy and Equity

The School of Health Policy and Management, Faculty of Health, York University invites applications for a teaching stream position in Health Policy and Equity at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, to commence July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses, provide leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation as well as support curriculum development at the level of programs.

A Ph.D. or a Ph.D. completed by July 1, 2019 is required in health policy or a related field with a specialization in health policy (e.g. Sociology, Health Services, Geography, Economics, Labour Studies, Legal Studies, Policy Studies, Public Health, Gender Studies, Indigenous Studies). Applicants will have a solid background in teaching from equity-based perspectives, including, but not limited to: critical approaches to understanding health systems, health access and the social determinants of health. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or the promise of excellence in teaching university-level courses and have a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success. Pedagogical innovation in areas such as placement supervision, experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning is preferred, as is experience with curriculum development and universal design. Work experience developing, analysing and/or evaluating health policy would be an asset. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service or promise of service in administrative and committee work.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

The School of Health Policy and Management offers a general Bachelor of Health Studies (BHS) and Specialized BHS Honours in Health Management, Health Informatics and Health Policy. These programs prepare graduates to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex and dynamic health sector. Graduates are equipped with critical knowledge and skills, along with a broad understanding of the economic, socio-cultural and political factors affecting health and health systems. The School also offers interdisciplinary MA and PhD programs in Health (Health Policy and Equity) and Critical Disability Studies.
