Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies invites applications for two (2) tenure-track professorial-stream appointments in in English as a Second Language (ESL) at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2019.

A PhD in TESL, Second Language Education, Applied Linguistics or in a related discipline is required. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching and in scholarly research, and to have produced publications appropriate to their stage of career.

Applicants should have an ongoing program of research and specialize in one or more of the following areas: Language Assessment/Analytics; Theories of L2 Writing; Theories of L2 Reading/Vocabulary Development; Vygotskian Sociocultural Theory.

The successful candidates must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision in the Graduate Program in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics as well as undergraduate teaching in ESL and the TESOL Certificate Program. Experience teaching content-based credit ESL in post-secondary institutions is required; preference will be given to those with experience teaching graduate-level applied linguistics courses and ESL teacher preparation courses; the successful candidates should be eligible for teacher accreditation by TESL Ontario. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced teaching and learning is preferred.
