The Department of Social Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University, invites applications for a joint tenure-stream professorial-stream position in Criminology and International Development Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2019. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D in a relevant social science discipline or interdisciplinary degree program related to the social sciences. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in the areas of teaching, research, and service, and have publications appropriate to their stage of career. We are seeking an interdisciplinary scholar whose research specialization and expertise is located at the intersection of the fields of critical development studies and global criminology. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in the area of human security from a developmental policy and institutional perspective, and its specification and concretization through different geographical regions within the Global South. Areas of interest related to human security, crime and development should include one or more of the following empirical research foci: corruption, organized crime, civil war and war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, transitional justice, international trials, land theft/land grabbing, policing and protest, and post-conflict development.

Candidates will demonstrate an ongoing program of interdisciplinary research in the Global South, and preference will be given to candidates with first-hand experience conducting fieldwork in the Global South. The successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is preferred. Salaries will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
