The Department of Design invites applications for a tenure-track professorial stream appointment in Interaction Design with emphasis on UX/UI at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2019. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

Applicants should have a completed PhD or PhD equivalent (typically a Master’s with professional experience) in Design or in a relevant field by the start of the appointment, as well as a minimum of two years of professional industry or academic experience. The ideal candidate combines knowledge of design theory, methods and research techniques with strong visual design skills. It is expected that he/she will take an active role in shaping the future of Interaction Design. Candidates must show excellence or promise of excellence in teaching, scholarly research and publication and service. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced teaching and learning is preferred.

The Department of Design is looking to develop an industry-leading interaction design focus which shapes the experiences of products, systems, and services, e.g. mobile and wearable computing, connected devices, technology-driven work settings, and interactive systems that affect social contexts. Our program seeks to work with prospective users, human-computer interaction experts, ethnographers, software developers, and business teams to identify innovative product ideas, design interfaces, and prototype interactions that advance the relationship between people and technology.

This professorial stream position will involve: graduate teaching and supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching and curriculum development, research/scholarly activities and service contributions, including administrative and committee work. The successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
