The Department of Music in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) invites applications for a tenure-track professorial-stream appointment in Community Music & Community Engaged Research at the Assistant Professor level. The position will commence July 1, 2019. All positions at York University are subject to budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position requires a dynamic and innovative practitioner and scholar able to contribute to curricular development in the growing area of community engaged music. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to the connection between performance and critical analysis in teaching and research, and an understanding of community music as it intersects with existing curricular directions in education, performance, and ethnomusicology, among others. Candidates engaged in practice-based, community music making as it relates to social justice, inclusive and empathetic participation, health and well being, among other issues, are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates will hold a PhD in Music or a related field by the start date or near completion.

The candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, with the capacity to contribute to the development of the University's academic and research programs. The candidate should demonstrate the potential for research excellence through top tier publications and research funding as well as experience in community music practice. Candidates should show excellence, or the promise of excellence, in teaching at the post-secondary level. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is preferred.
