The Department of Social Science invites applications for a teaching stream appointment in the Law and Society Program at the Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream level, to commence July 1, 2019. All positions at York University are subject to budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A PhD with specialization in Socio-legal Studies or a relevant related field is required. Candidates must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in interdisciplinary teaching and a commitment to interdisciplinary pedagogy and experiential education. There is a strong preference for candidates with recent course directorship experience. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach core courses in the Law and Society Program in various formats with expertise in one or more of the following areas: gender and the law; human rights in a socio-legal context; disability and the law; socio-legal theories; law and governance; diversity and social justice; law and narrative. The Department is keen to attract a scholar who has a particular interest in student experience, teaching-related service, and shows a willingness to take a leadership role in the coordination of the program. Published work in the area of Socio-legal Studies would be an asset. The primary responsibilities of the position will be the teaching of undergraduate courses in both lecture and seminar formats. A record of pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning is preferred as is experience with curriculum development. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.
