The Department of English, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies invites applications for a tenure-track professorial-stream appointment in Indigenous Literature / Creative Writing at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2019.

A PhD, or a PhD near completion, by June 30, 2019 in English, Indigenous Studies, Creative Writing, or a - related field is required. Candidates must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and in scholarly research, and to have produced publications appropriate to their stage of career.

We are seeking a colleague who can contribute to teaching and research in Indigenous Literatures and Creative Writing with a strong focus on Indigenous literary practices and literary studies (in North America and/or elsewhere) and on Indigenous pedagogies and ways of knowing, as well as with an interest in collaborative engagement with Indigenous communities.

The successful candidate will have:
• a demonstrated record of creative work
• a demonstrated capacity for scholarship using Indigenous methodologies in the study and the teaching of Indigenous Literatures (in North America and/or elsewhere);
• evidence of excellent teaching or potential with a commitment to diverse and creative pedagogical approaches;
• a demonstrated capacity to draw on experiential knowledge in research and teaching;
• a capacity to supervise and mentor students;
• a commitment to program development and curricular innovation, as well as to advocacy;
• and, an interest in ethical engagement and collaboration with Indigenous communities, organizations, and institutions.

York University supports Indigenous research and education through its Indigenous Framework for York University, the Centre for Aboriginal Student Services, the York Aboriginal Council, and Skennen'kσ:wa Gamig, or the House of Great Peace, a space for Indigenous faculty, staff, and students. In addition, the Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation offers two funding opportunities: the York Indigenous Incentive Grant and the York Indigenous Events Funding.

The successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision as well as undergraduate teaching in creative writing. Pedagogical innovation in such priority areas as experiential education and technology-enhanced learning is preferred.
