The Department of Dance, at York University invites applications for a teaching stream tenure-track position in Dance Design, Technology and Production at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, to commence July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and to provide leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation and to support aspects of curriculum delivery and development.

The successful candidate will have an appropriate terminal degree (MFA), or equivalent (e.g., a substantial record of professional experience) in the specific areas of dance design, technology and production and related or complementary fields. We would welcome an experienced dance professional that has knowledge and expertise in technical modalities for dance creation and production in various theatrical settings. The candidate would be qualified in teaching the nuts- and-bolts of production and provide leadership in directing and producing department performances as both an artist and teacher. The candidate would also be able to teach in one or more of the following areas: lighting design, video, interactive stage and have a thorough understanding of our technical theatrical equipment. It would be ideal if this candidate were able to bridge their deep knowledge of technology and production with our dance education courses and provide dance-teachers with the skills to create theatrical events in alternative settings, in school gyms and in community centers.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses, a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success and the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to teaching, learning and program design. A record of pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning is preferred as is experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
