The Department of Social Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University, invites applications for a Professorial Stream tenure-track appointment in Work & Labour Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2019. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in a relevant social science discipline or interdisciplinary degree program related to the social sciences. Candidates will demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in scholarly research and publication in the interdisciplinary study of work and labour studies. Areas of specialization are open, but preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching expertise in one or more of the following: new technologies and the future of work; globalization and work; work and migration; workers’ movements; work and popular culture. Candidates will also show excellence or promise of excellence in interdisciplinary teaching, with the ability to teach the core courses of the current program, and to take a lead in curricular development. A willingness to undertake service work, demonstrated leadership abilities, and suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies are also required. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is preferred.
