The Department of Humanities, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University invites applications for a tenure-track Teaching Stream position, First-Year Experience: Pedagogical Leadership, at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2020. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop courses at all undergraduate levels, with a particular focus on the first-year experience. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

A PhD or a PhD near completion in Humanities or a relevant discipline, with a substantial record of professional and teaching experience in first-year Humanities and General Education courses is required. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated a secondary interest in interdisciplinary material cultures. The Department seeks highly qualified candidates with the ability to teach across different disciplines and medial forms (visual art, literature, music, film, and digital media). In other words, the ideal candidate would be someone who is as comfortable talking about contemporary music in a historical / cultural / critical context as they would be about a nineteenth-century literary text. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or the promise of excellence in teaching university-level courses with an emphasis on critical skills, and have a strong commitment to pedagogy, student success and cultural diversity. Pedagogical innovation in such priority areas as experiential education, technology-enhanced learning and community-based learning would be an asset, as would experience with curriculum development and universal design. We particularly value experience in first-year general education course design, working with diverse student populations, and teaching multilingual writers. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service or promise of service in administration.
