The Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, invites applications for a tenure-track Professorial Stream appointment at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1st, 2020. We are looking for candidates who combine an Area of Specialization in theoretical ethics with an Area of Competence in Ethics and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The successful candidate will be expected to teach a graduate course on the ethical and societal implications of AI that the department regularly offers for MA students in business and engineering, and to engage with colleagues in cognate departments who are also working on AI. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

A PhD in Philosophy or a related field is required. Candidates must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly research and be well-positioned to engage with York’s diverse student body and to contribute to the vibrant intellectual life of the department. The successful candidate will have an active research program and be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is preferred.
