The School of Administrative Studies, Liberal Arts & Professional Studies invites applications for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Disaster & Emergency Management at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2020. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

A PhD (or near completion) is required in an area exploring aspects of Disaster & Emergency Management. Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in Disaster and Emergency Management higher education and must show excellence or promise of excellence in teaching, service, and scholarly research and to have produced publications appropriate to the stage of their career. Because of our commitment to teaching excellence, discipline-based research (applied and theoretical) as well as pedagogy-based research are equally valued. Applicants with demonstrated ability to design and deliver educational experiences that are valued by the school will be preferred, particularly the capacity to revise undergraduate courses and to develop graduate courses in Disaster & Emergency.

Applicants should have an active and ongoing program of research and specialize in one or more of the following areas: disaster social science, risk assessment, hazard analysis, comprehensive emergency management, disaster policy/governance, crisis communications, and/or specific disaster focus areas such as natural hazards, technological hazards, GIS or decision support technologies, terrorism, humanitarian assistance, business continuity, disaster logistics, social vulnerability, disaster risk reduction, disaster risk resilience, etc.

The successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The position will involve both graduate and undergraduate teaching and supervision. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is preferred.
