Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering, Lassonde School of Engineering

The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering (ESSE) invites applications for a three-year Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) in Space Engineering as a Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, to commence on July 1, 2020, subject to budgetary approval. While we welcome applications from individuals with experience in the traditional and interdisciplinary areas of space engineering, special attention will be given to individuals with experience that complements our current teaching and research activities: spacecraft dynamics and control, nano-satellite technology, space instrumentation, and space mission design. It will be an advantage if applicants have experience teaching large engineering lecture classes and a demonstrated commitment to participating in alternative course delivery systems.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in a related engineering field. Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence, or promise of excellence, in teaching. The successful candidate is required to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, build strong linkages with industry, assist in the administrative tasks of the program, department and the university. The successful candidate shall also demonstrate commitment to the engineering profession by being licenced as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario or by becoming licenced soon after appointment.

The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering offers undergraduate (BEng and BSc) and graduate (MSc and PhD) programs in Geomatics Engineering, Space Engineering, Geomatics Science, Space Science, and Atmospheric Science that develop students’ critical thinking and problem-solving abilities needed for current and future technical leadership roles in industry, government and academia.
