The Brookfield Centre in Real Estate & Infrastructure, Schulich School of Business, York University ( https://schulich.yorku.ca/programs/mrei/ ) invites applications for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Infrastructure at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, to commence July 1, 2021. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
The Brookfield Centre has established a global leadership role for the Schulich School of Business School in the expanding and evolving fields of real estate and infrastructure, and the increasingly important intersections between them. Located in Toronto, Canada’s largest city, it supports an MBA specialization, a one-year Master of Real Estate and Infrastructure (MREI), and the Sustainable Infrastructure Fellowship program held in partnership with a consortium of global institutional investors. Toronto is home to some of the largest real estate and infrastructure investment firms in the world, including many of Canada’s major pension funds that are innovators and leaders in global real asset investment.
A PhD (or a PhD near completion by the start of the appointment for the Assistant Professor appointment), is required, with a demonstrated record of excellence, or promise of excellence for the junior appointment, in research and in teaching infrastructure related courses. Applicants should have a clearly articulated program of research and specialize in one or more areas within the Infrastructure field broadly defined. Desired areas of specialization include, but are not limited to, the following: infrastructure investment, finance and development, infrastructure as part of the broader real asset class, partnership and business models associated with infrastructure investment and operation, innovation and the evolving role of infrastructure in city growth dynamics and competitiveness, and social and sustainable infrastructure in cities of the future.
The successful candidate will be expected to engage in outstanding, innovative, and, as appropriate, externally funded research at the highest level.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence or promise of research excellence of a recognized international calibre as demonstrated in: the research statement; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) with significant journals in the field; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.
Preference will be given to those individuals specializing in impactful applied research, have strong industry engagement, proven ability to link theory and practice and a global perspective. We seek a collegial “team player” who will also contribute to and enhance the ecosystem of the Brookfield Centre not only in research and teaching but also along student outreach, alumni and industry partner-engagement dimensions.
While, the primary focus of this appointment is Infrastructure, strong preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate an understanding of the connections between real estate and infrastructure and who are also capable of teaching courses in real estate – one or more of real estate finance & investment, structuring transactions or urban and real estate economics. Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching will be provided through the following: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference.
The successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision.
