The Department of Biology, York University, invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a three-year Teaching Stream Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) in Immunology at the rank of Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream to commence July 1, 2021. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Department of Biology with a focus on Immunology. A background in Immunology with university-level teaching experience in the field is required. The ability to teach subject areas such as genetics, virology, and others at the university-level, would be considered an asset. Creative educational initiatives and contributions to curriculum delivery and development will be expected. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval. Applicants must have completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Biology or a closely related discipline by the start date of appointment and demonstrated experience in science education, particularly post-PhD.
As a teaching-focused appointment, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses and a strong commitment to evidence-based pedagogy and student success through: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and a record of pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to Immunology teaching, learning and program design, and demonstrate good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching.
The successful candidate should have experience teaching large classes as well as experience teaching with different delivery formats (e.g. lecture, blended, online, or flipped). Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred. The successful candidate will also demonstrate good judgment and a reflective approach to teaching innovation, excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach to undergraduate teaching, and the ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team and within the department.
