The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Health at York University ( ) invites highly qualified Indigenous candidates to apply for a professorial-stream tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Clinical-Developmental Psychology with specialization in Indigenous Mental Health, to commence January 1, 2022. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

Candidates are required to hold a relevant doctorate in psychology (PhD, PsyD, Ed.D or D Phil) although doctoral candidates near completion are also welcome to apply and will be considered. We seek an Indigenous candidate who has experience with service delivery or community-based research with Indigenous children, youth, and/or their families. We would prefer a candidate who is registered as a psychologist in the province of Ontario. However, those with a relevant background in psychology and Indigenous mental health but not yet eligible for registration as a psychologist are also welcome to apply.

Candidates should be engaged in, or show promise for implementing a program of excellent relevant research with impact in the mental health and wellness of Indigenous children, youth, and/or families. Candidates should demonstrate research excellence, or promise thereof, through their research statement to help the hiring committee understand the purpose, context, impact, and appropriate outcomes of their work and methodologies. Our program and university are committed to working with faculty members to enhance success in obtaining research funding.

The position will involve undergraduate teaching, the supervision of Honours students, as well as graduate teaching and supervision. The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and be eligible for appointment as an Associate or Full member of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The successful candidate will also share in the administrative work of the Department, Faculty, University, Faculty Association, and participate in various decision-making councils of the University.

In your teaching statement, please provide details showing teaching accomplishments, innovations, excellence or promise of excellence in teaching, particularly in areas such as experiential education, Indigenous perspectives on health, wellbeing, and healing.
