Sessional Assistant Professor, Molecular Biology, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, York University

The Department of Biology, Faculty of Science at York University invites applications for a teaching-stream three-year Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) in Molecular Biology at the rank of Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream to commence July 1, 2022, for a three-year term. The successful candidate will teach and enhance undergraduate courses in the Department of Biology with a focus on molecular biology, particularly at the first and second year, and in upper-level courses according to their expertise. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (specifically in an area of molecular biology) with demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate courses in molecular biology and applying evidence-based pedagogy in their teaching. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses through their teaching statement and dossier; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning; teaching evaluations; and letters of reference. A record of demonstrated experience in areas such as experiential education, technology-enhanced learning or community-based learning is preferred, as is experience with universal design approaches to teaching and assessment.

The successful candidate will have experience teaching across the curriculum, including large classes at the first and second year, as well as with teaching with different delivery formats (e.g., in-person, online, blended, flipped). Demonstrating a reflective approach to teaching, the successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach to undergraduate teaching, and the ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team and within the department. This position includes service. Applicants should provide evidence of contributions to service (administrative and committee work), outreach, and pertinent activities in and outside academia.
