Contractually Limited Appointment, International Relations, Department of Politics, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University

The Department of Politics, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a two-year professorial stream contractually limited appointment at the level of Sessional Assistant Professor in International Relations, Specialization in International Security to commence July 1, 2022. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate is required to have a PhD in Political Science and a demonstrated record of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching, scholarly research and publication and service, all as appropriate to career stage. Applicants should have a clearly articulated program of research in the area of International Security. Ability to teach international relations theory, foreign policy, and global governance is an asset. Strong preference will be given to applicants who can contribute to teaching the mandatory courses in the Global Political Studies Undergraduate Program. The successful candidate will also be expected to actively participate in the Graduate Program in Political Science by serving as first and second reader for MA Major research papers. As such, the successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence or promise of research excellence of a recognized international calibre as demonstrated in: the statement of research and teaching interests; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) with significant journals in the field; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching will be provided through: the statement of research and teaching interests; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference.
