The Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the Faculty of Science at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Biostatistics (Health/Medical Data) at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2023.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics views this position as a key step towards continuing to build York University into one of the top universities in Canada for Statistics and Data Science in research reputation and in post-doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate training (including the existing BSc/BA program in Statistics and the new BSc/BA program in Data Science). Our vision is for statistics and data science to be a common thread that brings together great researchers from across the university, top graduate and undergraduate students, and industrial partners, and for data science to be the focus of resulting excellence in interdisciplinary and applied research that will further raise the reputation and prestige of York University. Biostatistics will be an important part of our data science program going forward, and we are looking to expand our research scope in this field.

Candidate Qualifications:
• Degree: PhD or PhD near completion by the appointment’s start.
• Research/Practice Expertise:
o The successful candidate will be expected to engage in outstanding, innovative, and externally funded research at the highest level in the field of biostatistics.
o Candidates must show promise of research excellence of a recognized international caliber as demonstrated in the research statement; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) in top-ranked and field-relevant journals; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.
• Teaching:
o Promise of excellence in teaching, as evident in: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations (e.g., high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning); teaching evaluations (optional); strong letters of reference.
o The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching and the successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Candidates must show evidence of potential for superior teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.
