The Department of Communication and Media Studies, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Critical Approaches to Public Relations, Experiential Education and Work-Integrated Learning at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2023.

The successful applicant will be based at the new York Markham Campus when operational (expected in Fall 2024) and become a member of the first cohort of resident faculty members. Between July 1, 2023 and the opening of the campus, the appointee will assume a combination of teaching responsibilities at York’s Keele campus and contribute to the development of academic and research programming planned for the new Markham Campus.

Candidate Qualifications:
• Degree: PhD in Communication and Media Studies or a related discipline is required by July 1, 2023.
• Research/Practice Expertise:
o Clearly articulated program of research (including research creation, professional practice, or community-based research) and specialization in critical approaches to public relations.
o Engaged in outstanding, innovative, and, as appropriate, externally funded research (including research creation or community-based research) at the highest level.
o Research excellence (or promise thereof for early career scholars) of a recognized international calibre, as evident in: the research statement; significant publications (or forthcoming publications); presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.
• Teaching:
Excellence (or promise of excellence for early career scholars) in teaching, as evident in: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations (e.g., high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning); teaching evaluations; strong letters of reference.
o Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position will involve graduate teaching and supervision in the Graduate Programme in Communication and Culture.
• Additional: Experience, ability or demonstrated interest in Experiential Education and Work Integrated Learning, including placement programs in community, public, not-for-profit or corporate sectors, is required. The candidate will teach professionalization and placement courses in the Department of Communication and Media studies as well as other general and specialized courses. The successful candidate will lead the development and strengthening of experiential education and work-integrated learning curriculum in the Department. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and experience reflects and speaks to the diverse communities of Markham and surrounding areas.
