The Department of Equity Studies, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Critical Human Rights at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2023.

Candidate Qualifications:
• Degree: PhD in hand by July 1, 2023 in the social sciences or a related disciplinary or interdisciplinary field is required, with a demonstrated record of excellence or promise of excellence for junior appointment in research, teaching, and service.
• Research/Practice Expertise:
o Clearly articulated program of research and specialization in one or more of the following areas: 1) theoretical foundations of critical human rights; 2) critical human rights and disability studies; 3) critical human rights, anti-discrimination and decolonization. The candidate must demonstrate subject-area expertise, as evidenced by familiarity with human rights historically, comparatively, and cross-culturally, including the origins of rights in secular and theologian teachings; advanced understanding of the relationship between human rights and critical race theory, postcolonial theory and/or decolonizing theory, and theories of ethnicity, Indigeneity, sexuality, dis/ability, age, and class; an appreciation of the legacy of human rights within western and non-western traditions spanning diverse local and global contexts and discourses.
o Engaged in outstanding, innovative, and, as appropriate, externally funded research at the highest level.
o Research excellence or promise thereof for early career scholars of a recognized international calibre, as evident in: the research statement; publications (or forthcoming publications) with significant journals or manuscript in the field; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.
o Engagement with community-based research in the area of critical human rights is preferred.

• Teaching:
o Excellence or promise of excellence for early career scholars in teaching, as evident in: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations (e.g., high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning); teaching evaluations; strong letters of reference at the shortlisting stage.
o Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position may involve graduate teaching and supervision.

• Additional: the successful candidate is expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.
