Purpose:
To create accurate and comprehensive architectural construction drawings for renovations
and alterations to existing buildings. |

Responsibilities:
PREPARES DRAWINGS AND SCHEMATICS:
Obtains design changes from Planners and Furniture Coordinators either through detailed discussions or from sketches prepared by design team. From discussions with users, Planners, Coordinators and engineers, determines drawings required for construction.
Ability to use AutoCAD2007 to create drawings with a high level of accuracy. Generates site plans, interior and exterior elevations, details, plans, sections and isometrics as required.
Ability to clarify issues and problems with Planners, consultants and mechanical engineers. Responsible for
coordination of site conditions, working drawings and scope of work to complete tender packages for construction.
Ability to work with design team and project administrators to coordinate architectural drawings with structure, electrical and mechanical consultants' drawings.
Ability to develop and maintain strategic communication links and working relationships with planners and clients (technological innovations, standards, best practices). Percentage of time: 55%
SITE VISITS:
Obtains "as built" architectural, electrical drawings in either electronic format or hard copy from the files.
Visits the location and determines the accuracy of the existing drawings and gathers information for changes.
Creates original design drawings and schematics to reflect existing architectural floor plans and electrical systems, incorporating modifications that have been made but not documented in "as built" drawings on file.
Visits users with Planners to participate in discussions of user requirements.
Visits site during construction to review concealed site conditions and construction methods. Percentage of time: 15%
SIGNAGE:
Designs and produces temporary signage for interior and exterior locations on both campuses using a Gerber machine.
Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Corel Draw files to import graphics into signage software. Percentage of time: 10%
MAINTAINS CAMPUS MAP:
Maintains as built conditions on campus map.
Designs and co-ordinates all master plan drawings with Master Planner.
Ability to interpret legal survey's of property, base building inventory updates.
Ability to interpret consultants drawings and accurately incorporate into university campus map. Percentage of time: 10%
MAINTAINS RESOURCE LIBRARY:
Ability to keep abreast of new technologies, materials, and developments pertaining to architecture and related fields of expertise, including evaluation of technical literature, and to advise on opportunities for these applications.
Ability to annually review library and advise on updates required. Percentage of time: 5%
MISCELLANEOUS TASKS:
Photocopies construction drawings using a large photocopy machine.
Provides maintenance and minor service of all drafting equipment (large copier, large plotter, signage machine).
Maintains inventory of drafting supplies, after manager's approval places the orders with respective suppliers.
Cerlox binding of specifications.
Other duties as maybe assigned by supervisor. Percentage of time: 5% |

Education:
Community College diploma in Architectural Technology (2 or 3 year program). |

Experience:
5 years recent experience in architectural design using AutoCAD. Knowledge and ability to review on-site conditions. |

Demonstrated advanced knowledge of architectural design, detailing and a complete understanding of related specifications.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of AutoCAD2007.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Gerber signage software.
