Purpose:
Vision: Science to Applications (VISTA) is funded through the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF). VISTA brings together York's world renowned Centre for Vision Research and six other synergistic Institutes and Centres spanning five Faculties to propel York's global leadership in interdisciplinary vision science from neurophysiology to perception and computational vision to new heights. VISTA will create a novel, interdisciplinary paradigm in neuroscience ad computer vision. It will be a research enterprise comprising of 73 faculty members from five York Faculties (Health, Lassonde, Science, Arts Media Performance & Design, and Liberal Arts & Professional Studies), 226 new graduate and post-doctoral trainees, and more than 50 partners from private, government, community, health care and international research organizations. There will be a strong focus towards commercialization of the research. VISTA's Mobilization and Commercialization Centre (MC2) will work with York's Knowledge Mobilization unit and Innovation York to support commercialization of VISTA's research into tangible impacts for Canadians through focused translational research and commercialization pathways. Reporting to the Vice President Research & Innovation and the Scientific Director, the Program Director, will work closely with the VISTA Scientific Director, Associate Director, Leadership Committee, and Chairs of VISTA's five operational sub-committees, as well as a growing number of researchers, and industrial and community partners. The mandate for this position is to manage the financial administration components of VISTA, oversee VISTA staff, and serve as a liaison between VISTA Board, the CFREF Secretariat, granting agencies, government, industry, and non-governmental organizations. Facilitates the achievement of the program objectives, performance targets and partnership goals through a team including: a Communication Officer, a Financial Officer, a Research Advancement Officer, a Commercialization Manager, Knowledge Mobilization Officer, an International Research Partnerships Officer, and five research and innovation technicians. The Program Manager is administratively responsible ensuring that VISTA functions with high efficiency, accountability and transparency, and that progress towards the deliverables of the VISTA's milestones are well monitored and documented.
 
Education:
University degree, with a Masters or Ph.D. in the applied science, business, health, social sciences required.
 
Experience:
Minimum of seven years' related, progressive experience, preferably within the post-secondary system in Canada. Demonstrated expertise in the management of major research or innovation projects. Experience managing staff.
 
Skills:
Demonstrated exceptional project management skills; Excellent financial administration skills and a demonstrated capacity to manage large project budgets and maintain accountability; Strong planning, coordination and organizational skills; Superior communication skills and effective presentation skills; Excellent writing skills and ability to prepare reports, including financial reports, for various audiences; Knowledge of University policies and procedures, and governance structures, as well as research project processes; Initiative and high level of self-directedness and a dedicated towards the success of VISTA; Strong problem-solving skills; Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal and external contacts; teambuilding skills; demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and collegially with multi-sectoral teams including scientists, researchers, private sector partners, community members, government representatives and non-governmental organizations; Proficiency with MSOffice (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and email software programs.
