Purpose:
Senior Administrative Assistant provides assistance to the Associate Vice-Presidents Research in support of their roles, ensuring the functions of the AVPRs office are organized efficiently. Ensures effective communication between AVPs Research and the Vice-President Research & Innovation, external stakeholders and internal departments. Acts as a point of contact on behalf of AVPs Research. The incumbent is Secretary to the Council of Research Directors and Associate Deans Research group chaired by the AVPs Research. Coordinates ORU Director Search process for the Office of the VPRI.
 
Education:
Minimum of a Community College Diploma with a focus on business administration. University undergraduate degree preferred.
 
Experience:
3 years recent related experience, preferably in an academic setting; experience working with numerical data and spreadsheets, coordinating and scheduling required.
 
Skills:
Keyboarding skills 40-45 WPM (minimum), accuracy essential; demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas: advanced word processing (MS-Word) including mail merge, tables; intermediate spreadsheet skills (MS-Excel) including basic formulas and functions and charts; basic presentation software (MS-PowerPoint) use of web browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla) electronic mail and computerized scheduling (Lotus Notes preferred). Excellent organizational skills; maintaining confidentiality; tact and diplomacy; obtaining and providing information clearly and concisely; superior attention to detail; excellent written and oral communication skills; effective interpersonal skills; dealing courteously and effectively with people; good judgement and initiative; proven ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure of high volume of work and changing priorities; ability to work effectively on multiple projects and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a small team. Knowledge of the organization and approval structures of the University including knowledge of applicable university policies and practices related to research an asset.
