Purpose:
Reporting to the Director, University Student Advising, the Project Coordinator Student Advising participates in and supports the design, development, implementation and evaluation of institutional student advising strategies, projects and programs. The Coordinator collaborates with colleagues in Faculties and across the Division of Students to support the development and maintenance of a comprehensive and integrated approach to student advising at York. This includes the documentation, review and maintenance of advising-related processes and procedures, a repository of standard operating procedures and the development of technical supports and resources that are both student and staff-facing. The Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of operational elements of program planning including but not limited to the detailed development and monitoring of project plans, the annual development of operational plans, and the analysis and reporting of evaluation data. The Coordinator ensures that the programming related to student advising is evidence based, theoretically informed and measurable.
 
Education:
University degree required (e.g., education, English, communications, technical/professional writing, psychology, organizational behaviour) or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks and knowledge of Project Management or related field. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Preference will be given to those with Project Management Certification.
 
Experience:
2 years related work with demonstrated experience in project management/coordination, planning, organizing, and leading programs required in higher education, academic advising, student affairs, adult learning and/or training.
 
Skills:
MS Word, Excel, Access at an intermediate level to maintain databases and manipulate data including demonstrated knowledge of functions/formulae, creating queries and reports, filtering, sorting and linking (mail merge), intermediate MS PowerPoint or similar presentation software. Familiarity with large computerized records systems, online/web-based content management and learning management systems. Analytical skills to collect, analyze data and prepare written reports for various audiences, in a variety of formats; accurate proofreading and cross-referencing skills; attention to detail; excellent oral and written communication skills to relay and produce targeted information (e.g., to a student audience) and provide information in a clear and concise manner; strong interpersonal skills to deal with different audiences; exercising good judgment and flexibility in an environment of continuous change and process improvement; working independently and as a member of a team in an environment of high volume and competing priorities; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to adapt to new and emerging technologies; excellent organizational skills; ability to coordinate competing processes and functions independently to meet deadlines.
