Purpose:
Please note internal title for this role is Supervisor, Grants Administration. The Supervisor, Grants Administration, under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Research Accounting, supervises the financial administration (daily, weekly, monthly & year-end) of grants/contracts, (e.g. internal and external (tri-council, and misc.)) and provides on going guidance and support to the Research Accounting Staff and the Research Community.
She/he also supports Managers in the continuous improvement of client service delivery to the Research Community.
The Supervisor supervises Staff and provides on-going guidance, direction and training to ensure job deliverables.
Participates in hiring decisions, staff discipline and attends grievances as required.
She/he also prepares or reviews and approves various financial reports, financial analysis and account reconciliations.
The Supervisor is a key liason between external granting agencies and Researchers and Staff in the financial administration of research grants and contracts.
The Supervisor provides training and frequent communication to Staff and the Research Community on PeopleSoft/eReports, departmenal and/or granting agency policies & procedures or other as required.
The Supervisor oversees the upkeep and enhancement of PeopleSoft/eReports & other systems as it relates to Research Accounting.
The Supervisor conducts special projects as assigned by Managers.
 
Education:
Post secondary degree from College/University in business/accounting or related field. Currently enrolled and pursuing a Professional Accounting Designation (e.g. CGA 3rd level or higher or CMA).
 
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of related experience including supervision of staff, preferably in a public sector finance department/division. Experience in financial/budget analysis & reporting. Sound knowledge of internal controls//auditing principles.
 
Skills:
Advanced microcomputer skills (i.e. Excel, Word, Powerpoint). Proficient in PeopleSoft Financials/eReports or equivalent. Proficient in database query languages and other reporting packages (i.e. Crystal Reports).
Ability to work in a multi-level team environment. Committed to client service. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to set priorities and manage a high volume of work and competing demands for time. Creative problem and conflict solving skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to deal courteously and effectively with staff and faculty, ability to exercise tact and judgment and exercise confidentiality.
