Purpose:
The Research Support Office in the Faculty of Health provides a range of pre-award and post-award research services to almost 200 full-time faculty members across four academic units, as well as adjunct faculty and post-doctoral visitors from our Faculty who hold funds at the university. Their research encompasses a diverse range of approaches and disciplines and is funded by all three Tri-Council agencies plus dozens of other sources. Our external research funding totals ~$20M annually, translating to over 600 research cost centres. The Faculty of Health also hosts and supports four Organized Research Units and is the sponsoring Faculty for others. The Research Support Office administers all internal funding research funding, provides project management for major research initiatives, and is expected to have an emerging role in academic and planning functions related to graduate students.

Under the direction of the Director, Strategic Research and Partnerships, the Research Operations Manager is accountable for the operational management of the Faculty of Health Research Support Office, and provides expertise and accountability for human resources, financial, and operations management of the Faculty of Health’s Organized Research Units and major research projects. The Manager collaborates with the Director, ORU Directors, Associate Dean Research & Innovation, Dean and Executive Officer on a variety of related projects and initiatives.
 
Education:
University degree required. Some post-secondary education in business, finance or human resources would be an asset.
 
Experience:
4-5 years of administrative/managerial experience in a university or comparable institutional environment including managing budgets, planning, analysis, and managing staff in a unionized environment. Understanding of the nature of university-based research and the research goals and objectives of a Faculty.
 
Skills:
Demonstrated and thorough knowledge and superior skills in budgetary planning and control; working knowledge of human resources management practices; excellent organizational and management skills; excellent oral and written communication with proven report writing skills; strong data management and analysis skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team; excellent interpersonal and consensus-building skills; proven ability to exercise initiative and good judgment; strong problem-solving; ability to multi-task; advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of web maintenance software an asset.
