The Director, Strategic Research and Partnerships is responsible for advising the Dean and Associate Dean Research in developing and implementing the Faculty of Health’s research strategy and for identifying, managing and promoting the development of large-scale research funding opportunities for the Faculty. Works with the Dean and Associate Dean Research as well as key stakeholders in the Division of Research and Innovation in guiding strategic planning, developing strategic partnerships and researching and pursuing potential funding sources to support research programs. The incumbent designs a service delivery model for research and establishes service level expectations that meet the needs for faculty members. Develops policies, procedures, standard operating procedures to ensure the Research Support Office operates in a highly efficient manner. The incumbent develops strategies for enhancing and implementing knowledge mobilization activities. Working closely with the Dean’s Executive team, and other University offices, supports faculty researchers in the protection and/or commercialization of their intellectual property. The Director is responsible for developing effective and innovative communications strategies that enhance the research reputation of the Faculty. Oversees the preparation of nomination files for university wide and external prestigious awards. The Director serves as an advisor and strategist for the Faculty on strategic partnerships and outreach strategies that range from local to global and as a liaison with government on matters related to research funding.
 
Education:
Master's Degree required. PhD preferred.
 
Experience:
Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in an academic environment, including research assistantship, teaching, conducting research, research support and preparation of grant proposals. Demonstrated experience in project management, financial planning, analysis and management of large, complex research budgets is required. In depth knowledge and understanding of granting policies, research grant awards and agency guidelines. Previous experience and knowledge of research in the health sector, with a particular emphasis on the following disciplines: psychology, kinesiology, nursing, health policy, health management, health informatics, eHealth, and aging. Supervisory experience in a unionized environment is required.
 
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of Canadian research funding agencies and foundations (public and private) and the opportunities available to universities from each. Knowledge on application procedures, funding policies for all grants and awards, review processes required. Understanding of international funding opportunities. Excellent project management skills. Demonstrated skills developing and managing large, complex, multi-year budgets. Proficiency at navigating various databases for the purpose of accessing relevant information (e.g. funding related databases). Superior oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated expertise in preparation of complex reports, applications, and proposals. Excellent research and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to interpret complex legislation, policies and regulations. Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills. Ability to work independently and a part of a team; ability to lead a team. Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, discretion and diplomacy. Excellent organizational, planning and coordination skills. Technical proficiency. Experience managing unionized staff.
